Terms of use

These terms cover your use of Ramayana, the app for reading and listening to Vālmīki’s Rāmāyaṇa on iPhone and iPad, made by Vectorlight Labs. By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

Store terms come first

The app is licensed to you under Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement. These terms sit alongside it. If anything here conflicts with Apple’s terms, Apple’s terms win.

Who can use the app

Ramayana is suitable for all ages. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, please ask a parent or guardian before buying a subscription.

A sacred text

The Ramayan is sacred to many people. We’ve tried to present it with care and respect, and we ask you to do the same. Please don’t use the app’s content in a way that mocks or misrepresents it.

Our retelling is one telling among many. It isn’t meant to replace scripture, scholarship or the guidance of a teacher.

Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app and its content for your own reading, listening and study. This use must be non-commercial.

Please don’t:

• copy, republish or redistribute our text, audio or artwork
• use our content in another app, website, broadcast or product
• sell, rent or sub-license any part of the app
• reverse engineer the app or get around its protections, except where the law allows it.

Sharing a short passage with a friend, or quoting a line with credit, is fine.

Who owns the content

The Ramayan itself is an ancient work that belongs to everyone. Our retelling, translation, audio recordings and artwork are © Vectorlight Labs unless we say otherwise. Where we use material from others, we credit it in the app.

Ramayana Pro

Reading every chapter is free. Ramayana Pro is an optional subscription, monthly or yearly, that adds extras such as narration, early access to new chapters and the full character map.

• Billing. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. We never see your payment details.
• Free trial. If an offer includes a free trial, you’re charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.
• Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Cancelling and refunds. Manage or cancel any time in your device’s Settings, under your Apple Account’s Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays on until the period you paid for ends. Refunds are handled by Apple under its rules.
• Restoring. If you reinstall the app or change device, use Restore Purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account.

Prices can change. A change won’t affect a period you’ve already paid for, and Apple will tell you before a higher price applies.

Accuracy

We’ve worked hard to get the text and audio right. Even so, we can’t promise the content is free from errors. If you spot one, please tell us and we’ll look at it.

No warranty

We provide the app “as is”. We can’t promise it will always be available, error-free or right for every purpose. Content downloads need an internet connection and depend on services we don’t fully control.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be excluded.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, Vectorlight Labs isn’t liable for indirect or unexpected losses. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Ramayana Pro in the 12 months before the claim.

Ending things

You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. If you break these terms, your licence to use the app ends. We may change or stop offering the app or some of its content.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes go to the courts of India. This doesn’t take away any right you have to bring a claim where you live, if your local law gives you one.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date. For material changes, we’ll update this page before the related app change ships. If you keep using the app after that, the new terms apply.
